Jacci Van Alder
Jacci Van Alder brings a wealth of experience to her role as Care Manager at Silver Leaf, which she joined in 2016. She started caregiving in her teens, and went on to work at the Mansfield Training School in Connecticut, group homes in both CT and NH and has volunteered for Special Olympics, Red Cross, Humane Society and Vermont Respite House. She studied piano in college and taught music for 25 years. She’s also been an office manager for the Visiting Nurses Association in New Hampshire, owned two retail stores, managed a marina and a piano shop, and done marketing for her own businesses and a radio station.
Many of Jacci’s clients find comfort and joy from cuddling and lap time with her miniature dachshund “Brutus.” He’s been known to entice clients to take walks with him! Jacci and Brutus enjoy visiting facilities like Starr Farm, Birchwood Terrace and Ethan Allen Residence. It’s great to see residents light up when Brutus walks by.
Jacci loves the one-on-one work with clients because she can really get to know their likes and dislikes. This allows her to find outings a client would enjoy: going out to restaurants, movies, plays, concerts, fairs, to the mall to shop and walk, swinging on a bench on the Burlington waterfront. She took one gentleman client to a pub so he could play pool. As she says, "Getting out can't be only about doctors’ appointments. There has to be some fun, too.”
