The newest member of our household and my new best friend.
Penny is a beautiful six-year-old Standard poodle. She came to me in May through a client. Her story shows just how much trust and bonding develops in the course of caring for people in their homes. Penny belonged to a very special gentleman, Burnett. Silver Leaf took care of Burnett for 3 years, and even though he was nearly 100 years old, his mind was sharp and he loved his dog Penny dearly.
After helping Burnett celebrate his 100th milestone birthday with family and friends, he confided in me that he was concerned about Penny’s welfare. He worried about where she would go if and when something were to happen to him. Without hesitation, I told him I would be happy to take her. I promised him I would take good care of her and give her lots of love. Burnett passed away within a few weeks after that conversation.

Penny was sad when I first brought her home – of course she missed her best friend. But I spent as much time with her as possible, took her for long walks, and played her favorite games. She’s quite smart and agile, and she will spend hours running after her ball and playing tug-of-war with me.
After only about a week, Penny settled in. She accepted us as her new family and she now considers our home as her home. Burnett was very special to me, and I hope he knows how special Penny already is to us. With her boundless energy and sweet personality, she has added so much joy to our lives!
